Under the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015, the principal contractor must ensure a suitable site induction is provided before anyone starts work. Most contractors run inductions. Far fewer can produce, on demand, a dated record showing who was inducted, when, by whom, and whether they understood what they were told.

Proving CDM 2015 Compliance

Contractors carry a parallel duty for workers under their control. Subcontractor labour is inducted and tracked in the same record, so the principal contractor sees the whole workforce, not just direct employees.

Does digital induction software satisfy CDM 2015?
CDM 2015 requires the induction to be suitable and site specific, but it does not mandate a format. Standard content can be delivered digitally before mobilisation, provided it is specific to that site and understanding is checked and recorded. Most contractors pair it with a short in-person brief on arrival covering what is specific to that day.
Who is responsible for site inductions on a UK project?
Under CDM 2015, Regulation 13(4)(a) places the duty on the principal contractor to ensure a suitable site induction is provided. Regulation 15(9)(a) places a parallel duty on individual contractors for workers under their control where the principal contractor has not already done so.
Does it cover subcontractors and agency workers?
Yes. The duty covers everyone working on site, not just directly employed staff. Subcontractors, agency workers and visitors with site access are inducted and tracked in the same system, so the record is complete regardless of who employs the worker.
How long does it take to set up on a project?
A site is configured with its own induction content, hazards and rules, and workers are invited by link. Because the standard content is reused across projects and only the site-specific layer changes, adding a new site is a configuration step rather than a rebuild.
