Company Update: What's New at LUMA1 – September 2026

Last month's post was about closing the gap between a training record and a verified, ready worker. September's shipped work chases the same idea from a different angle: making sure the record itself holds up under scrutiny.

What we shipped

Subcontractor and Agency Management

Subcontractors and labour agencies can now manage their own workers and contractors on LUMA1, so the principal contractor's team no longer has to chase paperwork. Each company gets its own admin and workspace to add or import workers, upload cards and certificates, and book people onto site orientations and inductions. The principal contractor stays in control: every credential is reviewed, and the team can countersign, reject or query it. LUMA1 then shows at a glance whether each worker meets a site's training requirements, so people arrive at the gate ready to work.

Translation and AI Voice Over Improvements

LUMA1’s Global Voice supports over 80 languages for translating videos, assessments, and other content. We have streamlined Global Voice to make it easier than ever to use with just three easy steps: caption a video (automatic on import), translate it and add an AI voice. For every language it shows whether captions, a translation and an AI voice exist, and it flags any translation that is out of date because the original video has changed. A single All Languages panel lets you open, update, restore or re-translate any version.

Certificates that match what happened

Bring paper sign-in sheets into LUMA1. If an in-person orientation/induction or safety briefing was run on paper, you can now log it in LUMA1. Everyone certified in that session gets a certificate reflecting the day the training happened, emailed to them as a PDF.

Reminders that reflect reality

One reminder, not five. A worker with several due dates now gets a single reminder listing all of them, instead of a separate text and email for everything due.

Expired invite links fix themselves – new option. A learner who opens an invite link that's expired can now have a fresh one sent to their email, instead of waiting on the next scheduled reminder.

Meet Maarten: Content Development & Customer Support

Maarten, Content Development & Customer Support at LUMA1.

Continuing this feature, this issue's conversation is with Maarten, who works across content development and customer support at LUMA1. Maarten is both a mechanical engineer and art school trained video editor. He also makes an awesome apple strudel.

What's your role at LUMA1, and what did you work on this month?

Content development and customer support for anything video and content related. This month that has meant spending time supporting customers with their projects, prepping for film shoots in the UK and Canada plus updating a customer's harassment-prevention course.

What's a readiness or safety problem you think the industry still gets wrong?

Complacency: "we've always done it this way" is one. The other is mental health. Tight deadlines, poor pay, and pressure from management to cut corners take a toll that most safety conversations don't touch, and it shows up as poor work, more rework, and people getting sick or leaving.

Something outside work worth knowing about you?

Love cooking, film and music. Aviation enthusiast of note – I love planes and flying. And I am a rugby coach.

What's next for LUMA1

We have some exciting updates coming on the content and course creation side, new phone features as well as some new scheduling tools for live training.

The team is at Highways UK in Birmingham the 14th and 15th of October. Let is know if you need a pass!

More conversations with the people behind LUMA1, in future editions.

See you next month.

John
